sometimes ask us.

Q. How old do I
need to be to
start Judo?
A.
The BJA allow us to
teach judo from the
age of 5 years old.
Crewe Judo Club will
take children from
the age of 5.
Q. Do I need any
special equipment?
A.
You will need a judo
suit - depending on
your height, suits
can be purchased
from the club and
will cost between
£19 and £28 for a
white beginners
judogi (judo suit)
Q. What will I learn
in a typical judo
session
A.
Our 5 - 7 year old
class teaches the
fundamental skills
which prepare the
children for the
future so in
addition to judo
skills they will
also learn how to do
simple gymnastic
skills such as
forward rolls,
cartwheels and
tumbling. They
also learn movement
skills from the
Pre-start level of
the LTPD including
agilty, balance and
co-ordination.
Juniors will be
taught throws and
hold-downs as well
as fundamental
skills to prepare
them for the future,
similar to our 5 - 8
year old class but
at a higher level.
Senior judo players
will also learn how
to apply strangles
and arm-locks.
Q. What kind of
sport is Judo?
A.
Judo is a fun sport!
It is an Olympic
sport and all
coaches hold the new
UKCC coaching award
and regularly attend
update courses
throughout the year.
Q. Can I enter
competitions?
A.
Not all judo players
enter competitions
but many do - it is
up to you. There are
competitions and
gradings aimed at
beginners as well as
advanced judo
players. You
will need to be at
least 8 years of age
to enter a
competition.
