Chris has been in Judo since 1987, where he started at the Dean Judo Club in Newport, South Wales under the coaching of Sensei Doris Dean, Sandan.  Upon moving to Crewe, Cheshire to study a B.Ed (Hons) degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, he then trained at Crewe Judo Club with Sensei Alf Coyles.  Upon Sensei Coyles passing, he took over the coaching at Crewe Judo Club, the club at the time being a member of the International Budo Council, founded by Kenshiro Abbe.

Soon afterwards Crewe Judo Club became affiliated to the Tokushima Budo Council founded by Kancho Alfred Bates and was privileged to take part in Budo courses with talented coaches such as Sensei Steve Crooks at Langley Judo Club, Sensei Leighton Jenkins in South Wales, Sensei Tudor Box and of course Kancho Bates.

As well as competing in Judo tournaments, Chris also competed in various Ne Waza tournaments and was a member of the 2000 Great Britain Sport Jujitsu Team.  He has also competed in a number of No-Gi grappling tournaments and MMA events.

For a number of years Crewe Judo Club was then affiliated to the British National Martial Arts Association, before making the transition to become affiliated to the British Judo Association.  Chris is currently the main coach at Crewe Judo Club and also coaches Judo as part of the curriculum and also an after schools judo club, at a school in North Wales where he is a schoolteacher.  Chris is also a member of Wrexham Judo Club, where he trains under the experience of Sensei John Walsh.

Chris is a UKCC Level 2 qualified coach, a qualified first aider and an active qualified timekeeper with the British Judo Association, having officiated at various tournaments in the North West and also The British Open, Welsh Masters and Heart of England.
